Belmont Stakes And Lakers Vs. Celtics

"That's why they run the race" I've heard that one before. So what may have happened yesterday at Belmont Park as yet another Triple Crown bid comes up short? Was it the heat?
Was Big Brown over anxious when he left the gate? Was it the nagging hoof injury? The connections say no and I believe them.

Okay, so he just didn't have it Saturday. Maybe next year? Guess that is what keeps us going every day. Horseplayers and racing fans are the ultimate eternal optimists. As long as they have tomorrow's racing form on sale somewhere, there is reason to go on and get up tomorrow and try, try again.

Looking at game two tonight in the NBA Finals from a betting perspective is where we go now. Looking at the total on the game which is at 190 or 191, depending on where you look, we like this game to go over the number. Both teams shot below average in game one, the "get to know the opponents defense" game. Tonight's game should be a higher scoring affair and we see the over as the play.

Door Wide Open For Big Brown-Saturday June 7th

The news came early this morning that Casino Drive had been scratched from today's Belmont Stakes due to the injury in his hoof. What could possibly prevent Big Brown from becoming the first winner of the Triple Crown in 30 years? Dennis Of Cork may come closing late, but it will probably be too little and way too late. Tale Of Ekati did show in his maiden win back in July of '07 that he may like Belmont, but what about the distance? He lost several lengths in the Derby towards the end of the race. Icabad Crane looks to be a plodder who only passed tired horses in the last stages of The Preakness.

Nothing. That is the answer to the question of whether Big Brown has any obstacles other than himself and maybe a premature move by Kent Desourmeax to push the button and ask him to accelerate away from his rivals. If he is patient, and waits until the quarter pole before asking the question, we will see a Triple Crown won today. Too bad there is nothing even close to an "Alydar" here to at least make it interesting. Horse racing will enjoy the brief spotlight that this should create, but what about long term?

Just another question to be answered.

NBA Finals Game One Thursday June 5th

We have finally reached the Finals after a long grueling season and we have the ultimate rivalry revisited as the Lakers and Celtics go at it in game one tonight. We have seen all through the playoffs that the totals have been staying under at the rate of 48 to 30 or 61.53%.

This game tonight should follow suit as the Lakers are underrated on the defensive side of the ball. Their defense has been excellent throughout the playoffs. People still tend to think of the Lakers as "Showtime" and generally see them as an offensive minded team only. The Celtics, especially at home, have shown that they can hold good teams below 90 points on a regular basis.

Tonight's game should be "get to know" night for both teams, and until they figure out each other's defensive strategies for this series, the under is the way to lean.

Baseball Free Pick Wednesday June 4th

We have dropped two in a row which is very rare here at Vegas Turf And Sports. We understand the nature of sports betting though and there are bumps in the road in any endeavor. The difference is in how you respond to those bumps.

So we look ahead to tonight's Reds-Phillies game. The bats have cooled off for both of these clubs and we see another under game tonight. The total is at 9.5. Let's see if we can get back to our winning ways.

Reds-Phillies Under 9.5 -1.05

Baseball Free Selection Tuesday June 3rd

We lost our game last night as the Reds and Phillies stayed under the total by one run. Not to fear, though as we forge ahead tonight with another play on a total. We like the under in the Chicago-San Diego game where the total is at 9. The Cubs score alot of runs at home, but on the road, they struggle a little. We see a low scoring affair tonight.

Cubs-Padres Under 9 -$1.15

Record In 2008: 58-35-3 (62.36%) +22.25 Units

Monday June 2nd Free Selection

We pulled out the W last night as our selection on the under in the Dodgers-Mets came through. Tonight, we go with the over in the Cincinnati-Philadelphia game. Both of these teams have been lighting up the scoreboard of late and with mediocre pitchers scheduled for tonight, we see an abundance of runs coming across the plate. The total is at 10 over -1.10.

Reds-Phillies Over 10..minus $1.10

Sunday June 1st Free Selection

Tonight's game between the Dodgers and Mets will see two very good pitchers take the mound. The Dodgers will send out Hiroki Kuroda and the Mets counter with Johan Santana. The Dodgers have struggled lately scoring runs and they face a very good pitcher in Santana who has an overall ERA of 3.40 and a record of 6-3 overall this season.

The total is at 8 even right now. We recommend the under in this one. Looking forward to a good pitching duel here.

Dodgers-Mets Under 8 -even
